What to do in Rome on the Republic Day

On the 2nd of June Rome celebrates the Republic Day to commemorate the Referendum of 1946 that put an end to the monarchy. Every year a military parade is held in the centre of Rome and the Italian air force offers an aerobatic demonstration with the Frecce Tricolori (Tricolour Arrows) in the colours of the flag of Italy, flying over the Altar of the Fatherland and the Imperial Fora.

Only on this day the gardens of the Quirinal Palace, residence of the President of the Italian Republic, open their doors to the public with free entrance. The culture lovers can also visit the civic museums of Rome and many private museums. Among the exhibitions that will be open, an unmissable appointment is Banksy’s War, Capitalism & Freedom at Palazzo Cipolla and the Macchiaioli’s Art Exhibition at Chiostro del Bramante. If you prefer a day trip outside the city, we suggest you to take advantage of the extraordinary open of the Garden of Ninfa.

Enjoy the Republic Day!
